Privacy Policy

School Mom (“we”, “us”) helps students turn syllabi and course sites into a to-do list, reminders, and a daily email. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to getschoolmom.com and the School Mom iPhone app.

What we collect

• Account information: your email address and name, and a password if you sign up with email. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google.
• Syllabi you upload: the PDF or Word file and the text extracted from it.
• Your coursework: the courses and assignments we extract or import (titles, due dates, descriptions, grade weights) and whether you've marked each one done.
• Canvas connection (optional): your school's Canvas address and the personal access token you create, which we use to read your active courses, assignments, and submission status.
• Google Tasks connection (optional): access and refresh tokens from Google, used as described below.
• Settings: your timezone, when you want your daily email, and Grounded mode preferences.
• Feedback you choose to send through our feedback form, along with the page you were on and whether you used the website or the app.

We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't collect your location, contacts, or grades beyond what appears in your syllabus or Canvas assignments.

How we use it

• To build and rank your to-do list and calendar, and to show when due dates change.
• To send the daily digest email and account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password resets.
• To sync your assignments from Canvas and to Google Tasks when you turn those on.
• To run Grounded mode if you opt in.
• To fix problems and improve School Mom based on feedback you send.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Google user data

If you connect Google Tasks, School Mom requests permission to manage your Google Tasks. We use it only to create a task list named “School Mom” and to add and update one task per assignment in that list. We don't read, change, or delete your other task lists. Google sign-in gives us only your basic profile (name, email, picture) to create your account.

School Mom's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't use Google user data for advertising, don't sell it, don't let humans read it except with your permission, for security, or as required by law, and don't use it to train AI models.

Screen Time (iPhone app)

If you use Grounded mode's app locking, iOS lets you pick which apps to lock. That choice is stored only on your iPhone as an anonymous token from Apple; School Mom never sees which apps you picked or how you use them.

Who we share it with

We use these service providers to run School Mom, only for the purposes above:

• Supabase: database, sign-in, and file storage.
• Vercel: website hosting.
• Anthropic: syllabus text is sent to Anthropic's API so its AI can find assignments and due dates. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, API data isn't used to train its models.
• Resend: sends our emails.
• Google and Instructure (Canvas): only when you connect them.
• Tally: hosts our feedback form.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

How we protect and keep it

Your data is stored with our providers, encrypted in transit, and protected by access rules that let each account see only its own data. We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your syllabi, coursework, connections, and settings within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something.

Your choices

• Turn off the daily email or Grounded mode anytime in Settings.
• Disconnect Canvas on the Add classes page, or revoke the token in Canvas. Revoke Google access anytime at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
• Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account by emailing j.ramirez.ozaeta@gmail.com.

Students and age

School Mom is built for high school and college students and isn't intended for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13; if you believe we have, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and for significant changes we'll let you know by email or in the app.
